Players draw cards from five decks—three are focused on specific areas of news literacy, one with Challenge cards, and one with Lucky cards. The cards contain 540 questions, divided equally among the three areas of knowledge: Understanding the News Landscape, Finding Reliable Information, and Verifying News.

Gameplay involves rolling the die, moving a piece, and drawing a card to answer questions. Correct answers allow players to place tokens in designated spaces on the board. The goal is to be the first player to cover all twelve spaces with tokens, each representing correct answers from the different areas of knowledge. The game incorporates True-False and Multiple-Choice questions.

The assessment process is carried out by having each player keep the cards they’ve answered, marking whether the answers were correct or incorrect. The number of correct and incorrect answers for each area is recorded in an evaluation table, providing a clear overview of the player’s knowledge and proficiency in each competence area.

From the link below, you can download the complete game in a format ready for printing: rules, game board, cards, and evaluation table.

Download, print, and test your knowledge through the game!

download the game
BOARD GAME FOR ASSESSING KNOWLEDGE

board game for improving news literacy

This innovative tool has been developed to help adults strengthen their news literacy and critical thinking skills in an engaging and interactive way.

The NEED educational board game offers a dynamic experience for 2–4 players (or two teams) and includes: a game board, dice, player figures, question cards, point cards, and Horseshoe deck cards. The board is divided into blue and white zones, enabling both individual or team-based play. Special fields like “double points,” “stop,” and “horseshoe” fields introduce strategic elements into gameplay, and players can influence each other’s progress.

Players begin at the zero field and, on each turn, answer the same question by secretly choosing one of the four answer options (A, B, C, or D). After revealing their answers simultaneously, those who answered correctly roll the dice and move forward, earning point cards (1, 3 or 5) depending on where they land. Incorrect answers mean no movement. Horseshoe cards provide additional advantages in the next round, like doubling your own points or blocking one opponent from playing.

Each question card includes a QR code. By scanning the code, players are directed to an online platform offering helpful information and resources tailored to the question. This feature makes the game a powerful tool for personalized, game-based education in news literacy and critical thinking skills.

The 30 question cards used during the game are selected from a broader pool of 120 carefully prepared questions, covering three competence areas: Understanding the News Landscape, Finding Reliable Information and Verifying News. Importantly, the number and selection of questions from each competence area can be tailored, based on the player’s or team’s results from the NEED Assessment Game. This ensures that the educational content is personalized to target the areas where learners need the most improvement, offering a truly customized and adaptive learning experience.

The game ends when all the question cards have been used. Players (or teams) then count the total value of the point cards they collected during the game. The player or team with the highest total number of points wins! Success requires a combination of knowledge, strategy, and a little bit of luck.

On this page, you can download the complete print-ready version of the game and start learning through play.

download the game
BOARD GAME FOR IMPROVING NEWS LITERACY

Two analog board games were created within the project: board game for assessing knowledge in news literacy This engaging board game evaluates players’ knowledge and skills in news literacy and critical thinking. The game features a rectangular board with 34 fields, which include various categories such as Challenge, Choose Area, Lucky Field, Double Dice, and […]

[4

post-30","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry","category-english
["GET
